Identity in institutional and political discourse

The research focuses on institutional texts (written and spoken) of major international organisations, such as UNESCO, UNO, European Landscape Convention, etc.
Such texts are, of course, necessarily non-conflicting and they require international ratification. One of their aims is to work towards a change in mentality, although not explicitly expressed.
On a formal level (linguistic analysis, “analyse du discours” of the French school), recent studies [A. Krieg-Planque, 2012] have highlighted how these texts are characterised by important phenomena of the implicit (presuppositions, insinuations, understatements).
Due to the social themes of conventions and texts issued by the large international institutions, particular emphasis is laid on the reference to identity, often to “plural identities”, which together with “cultural diversity” are typical epistemological facts of our era.
Political speeches frequently deal with identity, and on a formal level, they are characterised by an ethos beyond the speech itself, which is easily identifiable (presidents, heads of states, well-known international figures) and by argumentative methods linked to an incisive form of expression in the pathos.
